You start in Oltrarno with Leo and a Polaroid camera. You walk, you shoot, and you watch each print slide out of the camera and slowly come to life. When it is time for a coffee break, you take one. That is how Leo works.
Back at Fatacadabra, Leo shows you the Polaroid emulsion lift: a technique from analogue photography that peels the image layer away from the Polaroid’s white support using warm water and a brush. You lift the emulsion carefully, float it onto watercolor paper, and use your hands and a brush to shape the edges into something organic and personal. No two transfers come out the same.
Leo grew up in Florence, spent 30 years in Milan as a documentary photographer and educator, and returned in 2018 to open Fatacadabra with his wife, an illustrator.
